Sutton Trust Cambridge Teacher Residentials – sign up now!

Applications are still open for our FREE Sutton Trust Cambridge Teacher Residentials, a series of two-day residential events on a range of subject strands for teachers from UK state sector schools and colleges.

Applications are still open for our FREE Sutton Trust Cambridge Teacher Residentials, a series of two-day residential events on a range of subject strands for teachers from UK state sector schools and colleges.

The Teacher Residentials run alongside the Sutton Trust Summer Schools for Year 12 students, offering teachers the opportunity to learn more about supporting highly able students through subject specific enrichment. Sessions include a mixture of bespoke sessions from University academics and practitioners, observation of the student Summer School activities, and workshops on supporting student applications to selective universities.

The residentials run on selected dates in July and August, with each subject strand allocated to a specific date – you can find the dates on our website.  Teachers are welcome to arrive at any time from 4pm on the first day of the event for an informal dinner and chance to meet other teachers and University staff. Sessions will begin at 9am on the second day, and departure is from 3pm on the last day of the event.

Who is the teacher residential for?

Applications are welcomed from any UK state school or college. Schools will be prioritised according to the following criteria:

  • School or college below national average point score at A Level (or equivalent)
  • School or college has sent few students to Cambridge in the past three years
  • School or college has sent few students to the Sutton Trust Summer Schools

The Cambridge Teacher Residentials are open to applications from school/college staff with direct teaching responsibility for sixth form and college students in the subject stream for which they are applying.  The teacher does not to have leadership responsibility within the school, but should be in a position to share their experiences with other staff for the benefit of their students, and their application to attend should be endorsed by a member of their school/college Senior Leadership Team.

The events are free to individual teachers and to their schools/colleges, including meals and overnight accommodation in a Cambridge College.  The University is also able to cover the costs of transport, and to assist with costs associated with teacher release and cover where the residentials fall in term time.

How do I apply?

Applications should be made using the online application form.  Applications close on Sunday 14 June and you will be notified by email by Friday 19 June at the latest if you have been successful in gaining a place on your chosen residential event.  We will then contact you to confirm that you wish to take up the place and provide further information.

Subject Masterclasses – Events for Year 12 Students

Bookings are now open for the summer run of our popular Year 12 Subject Masterclasses.

Subject Masterclasses provide academically able Year 12 students with the opportunity to explore subjects they are interested in studying at university and may not have previously experienced. Each event includes two lectures, an introduction to the admissions process, and the chance to hear about student life from current undergraduates. There is a charge of £10 per student to cover event costs, with free places available to those in receipt of a 16-19 Bursary, Discretionary Learner Support, Looked-after Children, and those from families in receipt of Income Support.

Following on from the success of last year’s events, we have increased the number of Masterclasses offered in 2015. We held a number of events earlier in the spring, and have more scheduled this month. The Masterclasses currently open for booking are:

Friday 19 June

Saturday 20 June

Please encourage your students to book a place or register their interest for future events on the Masterclass website.
